I was a little skeptical about this film, but what a fantastic adventure! It’s the kind of film that has fun for the whole family. It does carry an age restriction of 13 for violence, so moms be warned.
Iron Man is a modern take on the tale of billionaire scientist and inventor Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.), who, in the process of demonstrating a new high-tech missile system to US troops in the middle-eastern war, is kidnapped by terrorists and taken to a secret location in the desert.
He is forced to either design them a powerful missile or face death. He obliges but builds a powerful robot suit instead which he uses to escape.
Of course no super hero tale would be complete without a call to save the world, which he sets out doing.
It really is a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend this one.
It’s a quieter weekend at the movies but there are a few very nice attractions if you’re feeling like some popcorn.
There is one film I can definitely recommend especially if you’re in the mood for something meaningful. Go check out “God grew tired of us”. It’s a documentary about a group of young men from the Sudan who barely survive and then get the opportunity to go to the land of milk and honey, America.
It’s going to challenge you to rethink the things that really matter and how many experiences and privileges we take for granted.
Scoop is another offering from Woody Allen. Starring and directed by the award winning screen veteran it’s a story about an American journalism student who believes that she’s uncovered the story of a lifetime whilst on a trip to London.
She gets reluctantly pulled onto stage at a magician show and whilst assisting inside the box in one of his vanishing tricks an apparition appears to her, unveiling the identity of the infamous and very much still-at-large London “Tarot Card Killer”.
It’s a fun romantic comedy as only Woody Allen can deliver.
And then lastly there’s the action thriller, Vantage Point. The story is told though the eyes of eight individuals and it makes for something different in the genre.
Enjoy the flicks and remember to write your reviews and thoughts on the favourites.
All the hype, all the Oscars but one big disappointment.
I popped out to go see what I thought was going to be a mind blowing experience based on all the hype this film had received. Surely winning the Oscar for best picture should guarantee me a great movie experience, so I go to my favourite Nouveau and the pay the enormous fee with a smile in my heart.
Oh how Hollywood has stolen 2 hours of my life. It’s long and boring and not a great adaptation of the book. I just didn’t enjoy it, maybe I’m too dumb to get it but it really didn’t strike me as a “Best Picture”.
What did you think of No Country for old men? Give us your review, especially if you enjoyed it and then please explain why!
Daniel Day Lewis won the oscar for best actor this year and if you watch There will be blood, you’ll know why! It kicks off at Cinemas this weekend.
You can take the kids to go see The Water Horse. Based on the tale of the Lochness Monster it’ll keep them spelbound for the 2 hours.
And lastly if you’re a big Tom Hanks fan don’t miss out on Charlie Wilsons War. The film tells the remarkable story of the Playboy Texas congressman whose efforts to prevent the Red Army from overtaking Afghanistan eventually led to the collapse of the Soviet Union, while simultaneously and inadvertently fueling the rise of radical Islam.

Over the past few weeks I’ve had more visits to the cinema than I’ve probably had in the past year. There are quite a hits but watch out for the misses.
The one thing I do find is that it’s almost impossible to decide which movie to see when you’re standing infront of the board at your favourite cinema complex. So I would suggest that hype isn’t always the way to go. Hype made me go watch “The Golden Compass” and let me say I was really dissappointed! Even though the book it’s based on has won many awards the movie just didn’t do it for me. It does look amazing and the Polar bear is my favourite but the story is disconnected, slow and in the end just sets up for what is suppose to be an exciting sequal. I can’t handle it when a film ends like that.
So far as the controversy surrounding the film. Well I couldn’t find any of the suposed warnings that all the chain mails and sms’s have been warning of.
Have a listen to this weeks popcorn and give us your review and rating of your favourite film this season.
What an exciting film! I absolutely enjoyed it, and almost every person I’ve spoken to said that they took a few minutes before realising it was animated, that’s how realistic the feel is.
The film follows the Scandinavian hero Beowulf as he defeats a creature Grendel to save the town, and become king. The twist in the story is that the creature’s mother(Angelina Jolie) is the real evil that has to be defeated.
I won’t spoil it for you but if action is your thing definately go and see Beowulf. It does get a little gory and graphic but it really was a amazing surprise.
What did you think? Give us your review and rating out of 10.
Firstly Congratulations to our winners of last weeks Competition!
There a whole bunch of films worth seeing at the moment so go enjoy and write your review!
This week sees the opening of Lions for lambs a Robert Redford film starring Tom Cruz and Meryl Streep. It’s a drama about students going to war, ploticians in washington and a journalist trying to get the real story. Looks reviting!
The comedy this weekend is, Heartbreak Kid. Starring Ben Stiller as a forty year old who has been unable to commit to marriage but decides to take the plunge with a girl he meets at his ex girlfriends wedding!
The minute they’re married she completely changes revealing a side he can’t handle. Looks very funny and it’s from the same guys who brought you “Something about Mary” and “Me Myself and Irene”.
Leonardo DiCaprio picks up where Al Gore left off with his environmental documentary The 11th Hour. I think we can’t see enough films about how to help save the environment so I’ll definately go check it out!
Have a listen to this weeks popcorn to get a feel for these movies! And give us reviews and ratings for all the movies you’ve seen lately!
